Veneers by Southside Dental
Book NowWhy do I need dental veneers?
A bright, healthy and happy smile not only gives you confidence, but it can influence your whole approach and outlook on life.
In contrast, discoloured teeth, or a smile full of chips and cracks, or one where your teeth are misaligned, can significantly detract from how you feel about yourself.
Dental veneers are a highly effective means of restoring the appearance of your teeth. They don’t only brighten your teeth, giving your smile a fresh, revitalised look, but veneers can also reduce the gaps between your teeth, or build up teeth that have become worn down.
How are veneers fitted?
There are two main types of dental veneers that we can fit at Southside Dental Options — porcelain veneers and veneers made from composite resin.
Porcelain is a hard, white translucent ceramic material that can be used to enhance the colour of your teeth, as well as to change their shape and size. Porcelain veneers are ‘shells’ that are cemented to the front of your teeth in a manner similar to how false fingernails are applied. Each veneer is custom made and they look so natural it’s virtually impossible to tell that you have them.
With composite resin veneers, individual layers of resin are applied to the front of your teeth one at a time. Each layer is then shaped and hardened, before another is applied. The number of layers required will depend on whether your aim is a brighter smile, or whether the veneers are also being used restoratively on damaged, chipped or cracked teeth. Your new composite resin veneers are then polished to ensure that they look both natural and healthy.
What are the benefits of veneers?
One of the most significant advantages of having dental veneers fitted is that there is no need to modify your lifestyle.
You can eat and drink as normal, and there is no need to make a change to your brushing and flossing routines. In addition, the fitting process is relatively straightforward, and in the case of composite resin veneers can usually be completed in a single session at our Morphett Vale dentist surgery.
Once your porcelain veneers have been made, they too can be fitted in one treatment session. Dental veneers are also very cost effective; you can expect your porcelain veneers to last for at least 15 years, while composite resin veneers will usually last for up to 10 years.

Dental veneers can be the ideal solution in a variety of circumstances:

- Your teeth are fractured or excessively worn
- You have large gaps between your teeth
FAQ
Common questions about Veneers
Will people notice that I have dental veneers?
Both porcelain veneers and composite resin veneers are made to look entirely natural in terms of colour and shape, and in most cases it is impossible to spot that you have them.
What’s the difference between dental veneers and dental crowns?
Veneers differ from crowns in that they are only applied to the front or visible surface of your teeth, whereas most types of crowns are designed to cover the tooth more extensively.
