Kid's Dental by Southside Dental
Book NowWhy do children require dental treatment?
Having healthy teeth and gums is crucial for us all, but it is especially important that children have good oral hygiene and receive high standards of dental care as their teeth are developing and growing.
Southside Dental Options provides high quality paediatric dentistry for children of all ages, and we work together with parents and caregivers to ensure that children understand the importance of good oral health routines from the outset.
Regular checkups at our Morphett Vale dentist surgery will ensure that children’s teeth are developing healthily, and will help to avoid the need for more invasive and costly procedures later in life.
What does kids’ dental treatment involve?
We perform a range of preventative and corrective dental procedures for kids of all ages in a child-friendly, welcoming environment. This includes:
- Examinations and checkups
- Risk assessments
- Preventative dentistry, including fissure sealants and fluoride treatments
- Gum disease assessments
- X-rays
- Fillings and other restorative treatments
- Customised mouthguards
What are the benefits of children’s dental treatment?
Having regular dental checkups during their formative years can lay the foundations for a positive approach to dental hygiene that lasts a lifetime.
As well as corrective and preventative dental procedures, we also help to educate children and their families about healthy eating habits, and effective brushing and flossing techniques.
When should kids have dental treatment?
As is the case with adults, children should ideally visit our dental surgery twice a year for a regular, scheduled checkup. This is an opportunity for teeth to be cleaned, to receive fluoride treatments and sealants, and allows teeth growth and development to be closely monitored.
The need for regular checkups is especially important for older children and teenagers, when wisdom teeth extraction, braces, aligners, or other forms of corrective or cosmetic dentistry may need to be considered.
FAQ
Commonly asked questions about Kid's Dental
What if my child is anxious about visiting the dentist?
At Southside Dental Options, we have extensive experience in treating children of all ages, and paediatric dentistry is a major focus of our practice. For instance, our Morphett Vale dental surgery treatment and waiting rooms are set up with DVD players, which children find engaging and also help to distract other siblings who may have come along for the visit.
We are committed to always doing everything we can to make both your child and you feel as comfortable as you can during your visits.
When should my child have their first visit to the dentist?
We would recommend that your first visit to Southside Dental Options with your child takes place around the age of 2 years old. This enables the child to get used to the dental environment.
What is orthodontic treatment and when is it required?
Orthodontic treatment can used to correct crowding or other bite problems. It can be required when adult teeth fist begin to appear (at around 6 or 7 years old), although it is more often the case that it is performed later (often around 10 to 12 years old).
There are a range of orthodontic treatment options available and which our dentists will be happy to discuss with you in person at our Morphett Vale surgery, by phone on (08) 8382 2436, or via email admin@southsidedental.com.au
