Night Guards

Bruxism is a condition that involves grinding of the upper and lower teeth. It is a surprisingly common problem, and can often go undiagnosed.  The pressure that clenching and grinding places upon the muscles and soft tissue that surrounds the jaw structure can cause joint disorders, tension headaches, neck and ear aches muscle strain and excessive wear on the teeth.  Together, these symptoms are referred to as “TMJ” problems (tempromandibular joint).

Bruxism can be managed by wearing a splint (otherwise known as a night-guard) during sleep. A nightguard is a horseshoe-shaped, retainer-like, plastic appliance that can be worn on either the top or the bottom arch. They are designed to protect the teeth by providing a protective cushion between the upper and lower teeth. A nightguard can be a simple and affordable solution for protecting your teeth and jaw from the damaging effects of Bruxism. When properly made, it can help reduce clenching, grinding, and TMJ problems by helping to relax the muscles in the jaw.
